Richmond Spider Cross Country Heads to NCAA Southeast Region Championships

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond men and women will be heading to the NCAA Southeast Region Championships hosted by the University of Virgina in Charlottesville, Va. on Friday November 13th.

The race will be taking place at Panorama Farms with the women’s 6K race starting at 12:00 p.m. followed by the men’s 10K at 1:00 p.m.

The southeast region championships will be contested by all division one schools with cross country progams located in Virginia, Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In total, 43 schools are planning on competing on Friday.

The top two teams from the men’s and women’s races will automatically qualify for the national tournament, while at large bids will be decided after all regionals have concluded.

The Richmond women will be hoping to continue its momentum from wining the Atlantic 10 Championship two weeks ago on Friday and competing against some of the best competion on the east coast. The Spiders will be led by senior Tara Hanley, who has been one of the Spiders top performers all year and finished in fourth place at the A-10 Championships. The women will be bringing eight competitors to UVA on Friday.

The men will be hoping to put on a good performance on Friday and will be led by senior Matt McKenna, who finished in sixth place at the Atlantic 10 Championships. The men will be traveling with six runners for the 10K race.
